Mrs. Marlene Bruss graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1977 with a degree in elementary education. She began teaching in the fall of that year at St. John Lutheran School in Maribel, teaching grades 1-4 in a multi-age classroom. Beginning in 1981 she took some time away from teaching full time to be a stay-at-home mom. During that time she continued teaching part-time as a substitute in many schools in the area and also was involved in the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. In 1991 she resumed full time teaching at East Twin Lutheran School in Mishicot, working with second to fifth graders. After 11 years at East Twin she returned to St. John Maribel, and is presently teaching first and second grade. After college she has continued her education with workshops and classes in a variety of areas, including hands on science, supervision of student teaching, and various aspects of language arts. She has also kept abreast of currents trends in education by twice attending week long WELS National Literacy Conventions. She has also been involved in workshops and conferences in the area of music. She is the music coordinator at St. Peter’s Church in Mishicot as well as working with music at Maribel. She is organ and keyboard accompanist at both congregations and also directs hand bells and Junior Choir.
