Phil was born in Omaha, NE and raised in Austin, TX, where he attended Holy Word Lutheran School. After grade school, he attended Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI, where he graduated in 1999. He attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN where he graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
After graduating, Phil was assigned to teach grades 5-6 at Christ-St. Peter Lutheran School in Milwaukee, WI. After a number of years, when the enrollment expanded at Christ-St. Peter, Phil was able to teach just 6th grade. This past school year, Christ-St. Peter incorporated departmentalization in grades 6-8, so he was able to teach 6-8 History and Geography. During this entire time he has also been the Athletic Director. During these years he has also taken classes through Viterbo, WLC, Cardinal Stritch, MacPherson College for classes on classroom management, differentiated instruction, and other courses. Phil is married to Keturah, and they have three young children, Anya, Colt, and Guinevere.
